Tinto 2024 - Salvation on a difficult vintage

2024 has been a hard hard vintage all over Europe. Heavy rains and therefore downy mildew pressure lead us to loose 65% of our grapes. 
Coming to harvest, it was certain we would not have enough grapes to make all our usual cuvées, and no experimentations. 
We decided to make what we know best : what Paul has been doing for years. Whole clusters maceration, letting the grapes slowly ferment, few punch-downs and pump-overs. 
Just one tank, filled with the grapes from the 3 hectares we farm. All our hopes, from an exhausting vintage, condensed into 10 barrels. 

Eight barrels were bottled, using our trusty chèvre-à-deux-becs after one year, two of them will have a prolonged stay in barrel.

Technical sheet :

• Grapes : Field blends, vines between 25 years of age up to 130 years. Probably 50 grape varieties, but hard to say precisely.
• Winemaking : Whole clusters maceration for two weeks.
• Special features : Unfiltered, unfined, special bottling method. 23mg/L added sulfur
• Terroir : Granitic, Portugal.
• Pairings : Red meat, Mediterranean dishes, cheese.
